Why you shouldn’t freelance for other freelancers…
Hey!
Most of the new freelancers I talk to want to support other indie workers running their businesses.
It’s a noble idea. One-person businesses need so much support…a personal touch can go a long way.
But it can backfire.
Most freelancers struggle in terms of strategy and cash flow. And your business is only as strong as your clients’ weaknesses.
Of course you can get around this by vetting who you work with (like established freelancers who pay higher rates), but that’s a challenge on its own.
The most reliable way to get started as a freelancer is piggybacking off established businesses that are already profitable…the kind you might approach as an employee.
Bonus: as you become a more stable freelancer you’ll have even more value to bring any indie business you do work with.
